Job Title: Director of Development

College Bound is seeking an experienced development professional to support a growing non-profit organization. College Bound St. Louis is an award-winning college success program. The mission of College Bound is to provide promising high school students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social supports and life skills needed to apply, matriculate and succeed in four-year colleges. Since our founding in 2006, we have succeeded in helping 100 percent of our students earn admission to college! We deliver our services with a full-time staff of 10 professionals, as well as a team of 10 full-time AmeriCorps and VISTA Members.

Job Summary: As a member of the leadership team, the Development Director is directly responsible for leading all development activities within the organization. The Development Director will develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to expand philanthropic support for the organization. The Development Director will manage all components of the strategic fundraising plan including: annual giving from corporations, foundations, government grants, individuals, special events; planned giving; and major individual gifts. The Development Director will work very closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Meet annual revenue goals, expand College Bound’s base of support and maintain and strengthen existing relationships
- Coordinate all fundraising activities, including developing fundraising opportunities and identifying potential donors through effective research, outreach and relationship building.
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan, with input from key staff and the Board of Directors.
- Develop ongoing relationships with potential major individual donors. Make solicitations and other presentations to potential donors on the activities of College Bound. Act as a liaison to the public in fundraising activities.
- Develop and build ongoing relationships with foundation and corporate contacts. Introduce College Bound to corporations and foundations that are not currently funding College Bound.
- Identify state and federal grants that College Bound may be eligible for and are not currently funding College Bound.
- Supervise fundraising grants and proposals, and maintain an annual calendar of deadlines for proposals and reports.
- Plan and coordinate fundraising events and other projects.
- Create and implement volunteer engagement strategies and identify opportunities for utilizing board members in development efforts.
- Oversee all record keeping related to fundraising and development, including donor recognition efforts. Oversee the acknowledgement of all donations.
Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years fundraising or development experience

Strong interpersonal skills; evidence of excellent relationship-building and maintenance

Excellent verbal communication skills

Proven ability to work effectively with board of directors

Self-starter with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Strategic thinker who can communicate and implement the vision/plan for growth of the organization

Prefer experience managing major individual fundraising campaigns

Prefer previous experience planning and organizing fundraising events

Strong computer skills
