College Bound Receives $50,000 Grant from Bayer Fund

Donation to help support credit-bearing coursework for under-resourced students in St. Louis. St. Louis, MO

July 3, 2024– College Bound announced today it received a grant for $50,000 from Bayer Fund to support Bayer Fund College Bound Summer Institute (CBSI) at the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL). Bayer Fund CBSI provides students with opportunities to earn college credit while in high school, free of charge.

Bayer Fund has partnered with College Bound since 2006. This support has allowed College Bound to grow to serve more than 400 students annually via its full-service program, To and Through. Students matriculating to college with credits earned in high school are more likely to graduate either on time or early, and with less debt. In 2023, CB students earned 69 transferrable college credits, resulting in a savings of nearly $37,000 in tuition.

This summer, 21 rising high school juniors and seniors are taking Gender Studies on the campus of UMSL. In addition to offering students the opportunity to earn college credits in high school, Bayer Fund CBSI mitigates summer learning loss, increases reading competency, reinforces positive study habits, increases test-taking confidence, and exposes students to a variety of major and career options.
